Why I Want to Join the Robotics Team

Part 1

Hi, I'm Caleb Borgmann. I love robotics, I love fixing things and I love coding. I code in a lot of languages like Python, HTML/CSS, and lots of block coding. I was in Peak at Aspen Meadows and we did block coding. I still do a lot of block coding on Scratch. I also code Ozobots. I have an Ozobot at home and I code a lot. I code it from movement to hand driving.

I built a JuiceMind doorbell with circuits, wires, and coded it so that when you press the button, a text is sent saying,“Open the door.” Though I pressed the button, it wouldn’t message me. It was a problem on the company side. I’m still waiting for feedback from JuiceMind.

I code my personal website, Calebborgmann.com. I have been coding since 1st grade. A copy of this essay is on the website. I have a passion for coding and computers. I’ve gotten more advanced with a lot more experience over the years.

I am on the tech team at Pathway Community Church. I run cam 5. I like to see behind the scenes and help or watch people solve the problems. I love to learn how to run anything techy.

I saw Lego MindStorm on the sign up sheet and I love Legos. Sometimes I just dump the Legos and build random things. For example, most recently I built a working Lego pulley with a ratchet. I also watch a lot of Lego Youtube, which gives me inspiration.

I also love using my problem solving skills to fix things. For example, I repaired my mom’s frother when it broke. I did this by snapping the pieces in tightly. It worked perfectly after that. I also fixed my friend's bike that they were going to throw away. The tube popped and got wrapped around the gear many times. I untangled the tube. It took me forever but eventually I got it.

I also fixed the computer that my mom and I share. After a software update started, the update crashed. Startup files were deleted and there wasn’t enough storage left, so the computer crashed. I did a lot of research and I found a way to recover everything. After backing up everything I figured out how to wipe the computer and reinstall the operating system. I'm typing on the computer right now.

I think these examples show I would be a good member of the Maple Creek robotics team.

Part 2

I think we should always work together and cooperate, because when people come together the whole team does better and has more time to work and get things done. With saving time on the little things, we would have more time to work on the harder things.

I think the robot should self correct. I’ve seen a lot of Lego robotics and they get bumped and moved a little off track. Someone told me that the Lego MindStorm has a compass in it, and I think I could help the team to get it to work. I would love to join your team this year.

Sincerely,

Caleb Borgmann
